I managed to clear the Hoth level in Angry Birds Star Wars last night. 3 starred! Next is the Cloud City! Savannah and I are still also both working on the Death Star together.

Resident Evil: Revelations Demo

The demo for Resident Evil: Revelations on Xbox 360 came out today. I've already queued it up so it'll download when I get home! I've played through the first episode on my Nintendo 3DS and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is, even on a hand-held device. I can't wait to give the 360 version a go!

Shame on You Mitsubishi Dealerships

This morning I went to go get an oil and filter change on my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Being mostly ignorant in the car world, I go to my dealership to handle any service requests on my car. I can hear you car enthusiasts grumbling now. However, it's just the easiest for me even if it costs me a bit more out of pocket. Half an hour into the service, the lady handling my car came to me and said the cabin air filter needed to be changed along with a tire rotation. Now first of all, I just purchased these tires, they have about 3,000 miles on them if that. Immediately I started questioning her since that didn't sound right at all. I had also told her, unknowingly to just go ahead and take care of the cabin air filter as well -- it sounded like something that was going to be a pain to do myself. Off she went to go double check with the technician on the tires. I quickly Google'd Lancer cabin air filter just to see what one would cost. One of the first results was surprisingly a video bashing dealerships for charging $50 (almost the exact price I was quoted -- $50.38) to change the filter for you and how to change it yourself in about 5-10 minutes.

So there you have it. By asking basic question and challenging these people, I ended up saving ~$70 today. I'll swing by the auto parts store on the way home, snag an air filter for $11 or so and do it myself tonight or this weekend. I knew dealerships were really stealerships!

Now With More Emoji and Markdown Goodness!

I've been working on coding something extra in mine and my girlfriends blogs over the last couple days. I've added emoji support through the use of emojify.js. This simply lets me add little smilies and faces and icons:

smile: 😝 😋 ❤️ 👌 👹 🐴 🐡

etc etc...Anything from Emoji Cheat Sheet.

I thought it was a nifty little addition to our blog codebase! Secondly I've added support for Markdown via php-markdown. This, oddly enough was the easier of the two to get working. Somehow I got stuck on how to call the Javascript for emojify.js. I've gotten relatively accustomed to working with Markdown from using Octopress so much. Before I implemented Markdown I was using the PHP function nl2br, which wasn't working so hot with unordered lists. It was inserting a <br /> tag every every <li> element which was causing something that looked like double spacing between each list item. It didn't look good. So after implementing Markdown lists looks a lot more normal.

It's definitely been a lot of fun coding this site and my girlfriends by hand. It gives us complete control over everything and we can customize it to our ❤️ ❤️ 's content!
